Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from the Fuchslahn vineyard, which holds official Cru (MGA) status. It is planted between 400 and 600 m above sea level, on sun-drenched terraces with loamy, gravelly soils. The vines give a small crop with intense aromas. The altitude and the soils lend the wine a pronounced mineral character.
Vinification
The grapes are picked by hand and handled gently. After destemming and a short cold maceration, the must ferments in stainless steel tanks at 17 °C.
Ageing
The wine rests 12 months on the lees in stainless steel, with regular bâtonnage. It then matures for at least another year in bottle in the winery's cellars before release.
Tasting profile
Alpine Gewurztraminer in which the variety's lush, exotic side is balanced by the cool, restrained character of its mountain origins. It remains rich and unmistakably Gewurztraminer, with surprising freshness and a well-defined structure. Lees ageing adds weight, depth and an almost oily texture while keeping the fruit pure. The mineral character balances the variety's natural sweetness, and the whole wine is harmonious. The structure gives it excellent potential for bottle ageing.
