Vineyard and terroir
The vines grow in limestone and clay soils in Alto Adige, on warm slopes well suited to viticulture. Winter snow and frost disappear quickly from the warm, loose soils. Both varieties were brought from France in the second half of the nineteenth century. The summer heat takes some of the delicate fruit character from Cabernet Sauvignon, but gives the wine greater richness and a little extra weight on the palate. The spicy Cabernet Franc (named "Pinot Franc" in the source) can fully develop its aromas of herbs, spices and vegetables.
Tasting profile
Aromas of herbs, spices and vegetables, with richness and some extra weight on the palate. Full body and balanced acidity, typical of Alto Adige wines. With a few years of bottle ageing the wine gains an interesting aroma and flavour.
