Vinification
The grapes were harvested into baskets and taken to the winery, where they were gently pressed to separate the juice. Cold static clarification followed. Fermentation lasted about 15 days at a maximum temperature of 18 °C.
Ageing
Before bottling, the wine matured for 18 months in large Slavonian botti. It was then blended and rested for a further seven months in stainless-steel tanks.
Tasting profile
Refined, with concentrated flavours and aromas.
Vintage notes
The 2014 growing season began with a mild winter, followed by a hot, dry summer. The conditions produced a small crop with concentrated flavours and aromas.
Label / history
The name “Pistin” denotes a traditional wooden implement used to prune vines. Barbaresco was historically known as Nebbiolo di Barbaresco; Austrian General Melas celebrated his victory over the French with the wine in 1799. It received DOCG status in 1980.
