Vineyard and terroir
The selected bunches come exclusively from the approximately 7.09 ha Prea vineyard, at 560–610 m above sea level. Pronounced day-to-night temperature differences at this altitude allow the harvest to extend into late October. “Prea” means “stone” in the Veronese dialect, a reference to the vineyard’s marly-calcareous soil, particularly rich in rocky material of Cretaceous origin.
Grapes
Corvina and Teroldego.
Vinification
The best bunches are selected and harvested by hand. After crushing and destemming, the grapes ferment in concrete tanks at a controlled temperature of 18–20°C.
Ageing
The wine matures for two years between concrete and large oak cask, followed by a further six months in bottle.
Technical data
Rosso Verona IGT. Alcohol: 13% vol. Available format: 0.75 L.
Tasting profile
Bright ruby red. The layered nose offers raspberry, redcurrant and other small red fruits, accompanied by delicate spice and medicinal herbs. The palate is full and fresh, with well-integrated acidity. Minerality and acidity associated with the calcareous soil bring vibrancy, considerable length and persistence.
Serving and pairing
Its mineral character and acidity suit structured dishes, including game and substantial first courses. It can also accompany Asian preparations that favour savoury, mineral wines.
Label / history
The name “Prea,” meaning “stone” in the Veronese dialect, derives from the rocky character of the vineyard’s marly-calcareous soil.
