Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The vines grow in limestone soils and have an average age of around 31 years.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in mid-October and fermented at a controlled temperature for 10 days. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration.
Ageing
The wine ages in barriques, then rests for 3–4 months in large stainless-steel tanks and for about a year in bottle in La Spinetta’s cellars.
Label / history
The label depicts a lion reproduced from a drawing by the German artist Albrecht Dürer. Giorgio Rivetti’s fondness for Dürer’s work led La Spinetta to use reproductions of it on its wine labels; other wines from the producer feature a rhinoceros. Neither animal has a historical connection to the estate. The designers chose the lion, traditionally regarded as the king of beasts, to reflect Barolo’s status as the “king of wines.”
