Vineyard and terroir
Sangiovese Grosso is selected from vineyards more than 23 years old in the hills of Montalcino. The sites lie at different elevations, average 250 m above sea level and receive sunlight until sunset. Their soils are tuffaceous clay with a high proportion of skeleton, and the vines are trained to a bilateral, balanced cordon.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese Grosso.
Vinification
Intensive extraction during the initial stages of fermentation is followed by long, quiescent maceration on the pomace. The temperature is allowed to rise freely to a maximum of 33°C and is maintained at a high level until racking.
Ageing
The wine matures for 3 years in 40 hL Slavonian oak barrels, followed by a further 12 months of refinement in bottle.
Technical data
Alcohol: 14.5%. Annual production: 15,000 bottles.
Tasting profile
Deep, limpid ruby red with garnet hues. The bouquet is ethereal, intense and complex. Full-bodied and well structured on the palate, it combines pronounced tannins with softness and a dry, dynamic character. It evolves with air in the glass, revealing greater aromatic complexity. A published press description characterizes it as bright, iridescent and spicy, with a fresh, agile palate and a finely spiced, elegant finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C in a balloon glass. Pair with succulent dishes, red meats, game and aged cheeses.
