Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from the same hillside vineyards used for Brunello di Montalcino. The sites lie at different elevations in Montalcino and receive sunlight until sunset, averaging 250 m above sea level. The vines are more than 20 years old. The soil is mixed clay with abundant skeletal material, and the training system is a balanced bilateral cordon.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese Grosso.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in new Slavonian oak barrels and then spends at least four months in bottle.
Technical data
Alcohol: 14.5%. Annual production is 20,000 bottles.
Tasting profile
Clear ruby red tending toward garnet. The enveloping, fragrant bouquet combines fruit with well-integrated woody notes, including red cherry, juicy black plum, vanilla, black peppermint and a suggestion of licorice. The palate is full-bodied, structured and tannic, at once soft and powerful, with depth and elegance.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C in a balloon glass. Pair with game and medium-aged cheeses. Its direct, decisive character also complements traditional Tuscan dishes.
