Vineyard and terroir
The technical data describe hillside vineyards in the Monte Vulture area around Venosa, Basilicata, at 400 metres above sea level. The vines were planted in 1998 and are espalier-trained with Guyot pruning, at a density of 4,100 vines per hectare. The approximately 10-hectare estate has loose, dry volcanic soil of good structure, essentially tufaceous and typical of mineral-bearing pozzolanic terrain.
Grapes
Aglianico.
Vinification
The 2023 technical sheet records a hand harvest into crates during the first ten days of October, with a stated yield of 100 quintals per hectare. The must remains in contact with its skins for eight hours, followed by gentle pressing and fermentation in stainless-steel vessels at a controlled 14°C.
Ageing
Maturation takes place in stainless steel, followed by refinement in bottle. Bottling normally coincides with the cool spring season, and the wine is released after at least three months in bottle.
