Vineyard and terroir
The 2023 technical sheet places the hillside vineyards in the Monte Vulture area around Venosa, Basilicata, at 400 m above sea level. The vines were planted in 2000 and are trained on an espalier system with Guyot pruning at a density of 4,400 vines per hectare. The loose, dry volcanic soil is predominantly tuffaceous, with the characteristic colour of pozzolanic terrain and a good mineral presence. Yield is 100 quintals per hectare.
Grapes
Aglianico del Vulture vinified as a white wine.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand into crates during the last ten days of September. Whole grapes undergo gentle pressing, with only the first free-run must extracted and no contact with the skins.
Ageing
The wine matures for 4–5 months in French oak barriques and for at least one year in bottle.
