Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from old vines at Finca Los Nobles in Vistalba, Luján de Cuyo, at 1,026 metres. The wine is made under the rules of the Luján de Cuyo Denomination of Controlled Origin, District Category for Vistalba. The Los Nobles line honours vines whose fruit reflects Mendoza’s terroir through the experience accumulated by four generations of the Arizu family.
Grapes
94% Malbec and 6% Petit Verdot. The old vines are interplanted as a field blend, and the two varieties are harvested together.
Vinification
Harvesting is manual in 18–20 kg boxes. The fruit undergoes cluster selection, destemming and berry selection. Cold maceration lasts three to five days at 10–12°C. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at 25–28°C with selected yeasts, pump-overs and délestage.
After alcoholic fermentation, the wine is transferred to barrels, where malolactic fermentation takes place. It is subsequently stabilised, filtered and bottled.
Ageing
The dedicated maturation specification gives 12–16 months in 500-litre French oak barrels of first, second and third use and in foudres. The vinification description specifically mentions 12 months in barrel.
Technical data
For the 2022 vintage: 13.9% alcohol, 5.02 total acidity, pH 3.60 and 2.1 g/L residual sugar. Ageing potential is 20 years. Pablo Cúneo is the winemaker.
