Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The Dolcetto comes from estate vineyards around Dogliani, including hillside plots named San Luigi, Madonna delle Grazie and Santa Lucia. All have southern exposure. The soils consist mainly of marl and calcium, with clay in some areas. The vines were planted between 1941 and 2010.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28 °C. The wine then undergoes racking and malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine rests for several months in neutral tanks.
Label / history
Luigi Einaudi, an economist, politician and journalist, was the second President of the Italian Republic from 1948 to 1955 and contributed to the post-war reconstruction of Italy’s economy and legal system. Known locally as “the Professor,” he owned vineyards in Dogliani and reportedly never missed the harvest at San Giacomo. He purchased the approximately 16.2 ha San Giacomo vineyard in 1897, establishing Poderi Luigi Einaudi.
The estate now comprises 145 ha, of which just over 45 ha are vineyards. Its winery was completely rebuilt in 1993 and is almost entirely underground to maintain constant temperature and humidity.
