Vineyard and terroir

The estate's vineyards total 25 hectares around Castelnuovo dell'Abate, at 150–420 metres above sea level. Brunello vines, averaging 35 years old, occupy 14 hectares. Exposures are south, southeast and southwest, and the geology varies by site. In the southeast clay and tuff with pockets of sand are most common; the southern and southwestern soils consist mainly of river pebbles and limestone. These poor soils naturally limit yields.

Grapes

Sangiovese Grosso, also known as Brunello.

Vinification

The grapes are healthy, picked by hand, carefully selected and harvested at optimal ripeness. After pressing they undergo a long maceration on the skins, followed by alcoholic fermentation in concrete tanks.

Ageing

The wine matures for 5 months in 54 hl barrels of French oak from Allier, then 4 months in concrete vessels. After bottling it rests a further 5 months in the estate's cellars.

Tasting profile

Juicy, and appealing even in its youth.

Vintage notes

The 2022 is expected to show at its best from 2026 to 2037.
