Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in sandy, silty soils in the Canale d’Alba area.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in early October and undergo 5–7 days of skin maceration. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in barrels. The final blend is assembled in stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The young wine matures in new barriques for 18 months, followed by about one year in bottle.
Label / history
Matteo Correggia took charge of the family estate at the age of 23 and converted its mixed-crop farm into a winery, bottling his first vintage two years later. He discontinued its former products, expanded the vineyards from 8 to 20 hectares and upgraded the cellars.
Following Matteo’s death in an accident in 2001, his wife, Ornella Costa, assumed responsibility for the company. The winery produces around 100,000 bottles annually.
An asteroid discovered in 1984 was named “Matteo Correggia” after Matteo Correggia (1961–2001).
