Vineyard and terroir
The vines grow on the eastern hills of Friuli at 110 metres above sea level. The soils are limestone marl mixed with sandstone, which drain well and give the wines subtle mineral notes. The grapes are grown using exclusively organic methods.
Grapes
Merlot with a small amount of Refosco. The proportions may vary with the weather during the ripening season.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested fully ripe in the first week of October. Maceration and fermentation take place in stainless steel tanks over 3 weeks. Malolactic fermentation then lasts 15–20 days in French oak barrels at a controlled temperature.
Ageing
The wine ages on its lees for 10 months in barriques, which give structure, body and light spicy notes. Only barriques that have already been used at least once are chosen, to preserve the fresh fruit character. A further 12 months in bottle follow. The wine is not filtered before bottling.
Tasting profile
Elegant, with a bright, fruity character in both aroma and taste. Subtle mineral notes, light spice, and structure and body from the barrique ageing.
Label / history
"Nestri" means "Our" in the local dialect, reflecting its easy, everyday style. Average annual production is 11,500 bottles.
