Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in Sulcis, in south-western Sardinia. The Mediterranean climate brings low, unevenly distributed rainfall, high spring and summer temperatures, and winters ranging from cold and dry to mild. The naturally fertile, medium-textured soils combine sand with calcareous clay and have a good mineral supply. Cantina Mesa has 100 ha of vineyards among the hills of Porto Pino.
Vinification
Chardonnay is harvested in late August and Vermentino in mid-September. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels.
Ageing
The wine remains on its lees in oak barrels for about six months, followed by three months in vats and at least three months in bottle.
Tasting profile
The bouquet is intense and complex, with elegant aromas. The palate is balanced.
Label / history
In Sardinia and Spanish, “Mesa” means “dining table” and represents food, feasting, maternal love, simplicity and aromas. Gavino Sanna founded Cantina Mesa with Giuseppe Mele from a shared attachment to Sardinia and its culture. The winery has a minimalist white façade decorated with motifs inspired by traditional Sardinian carpet weaving; designed by Sanna, the same motifs appear on every Cantina Mesa bottle. Winemaker Piero Cella is among the estate’s team.
