Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown in Sulcis, in southwestern Sardinia. Cantina Mesa's 100 ha of vineyards are located at Porto Pino. The Mediterranean climate brings low, unevenly distributed rainfall, frequent northwesterly winds, high spring and summer temperatures, and winters ranging from cold and dry to mild. The soils are sandy and calcareous-clay, mineral-rich and medium-textured. Yields are 30–40 hL/ha.
Grapes
Aromatic local white grape varieties are used.
Vinification
Harvest takes place during the final ten days of August. Part of the crop is picked at normal ripeness and gently pressed, while the remaining grapes dry naturally on the bunches. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine matures in stainless-steel tanks.
Label / history
In Sardinian, as in Spanish, “Mesa” literally means a dining table and also evokes food, feasting, maternal love, simplicity and aromas. Cantina Mesa was founded by designer Gavino Sanna and Giuseppe Mele. Its minimalist winery has a white façade decorated with motifs inspired by traditional Sardinian carpet weaving; designed by Sanna, these patterns also appear on every Cantina Mesa bottle.
