Vineyard and terroir
The Syrah and Carignano are grown in Sulcis, southwestern Sardinia. The Mediterranean climate brings low, unevenly distributed rainfall, frequent northwesterly winds, hot springs and summers, and winters ranging from cold and dry to mild. The soils are sandy and calcareous-clayey, mineral-rich and medium-textured.
Cantina Mesa has 100 ha of vineyards among the sky, sea and hills of Porto Pino.
Vinification
The Syrah is harvested in the first ten days of September, followed by the Carignano in the second ten days. The grapes are gently pressed and macerated on their skins for 10 days.
Ageing
Half of the wine matures in oak barrels and half in stainless-steel tanks for several months. It then rests in bottle for at least two months.
Label / history
The Sardinian and Spanish word “Mesa” literally means “dining table”; for the winery, it also evokes food, feasting, maternal love, simplicity and aromas. Cantina Mesa was founded by designer Gavino Sanna and Giuseppe Mele out of an affection for Sardinia and its culture.
The winery has a minimalist white façade decorated with motifs inspired by traditional Sardinian carpet weaving. Designed by Sanna, these motifs also appear on every Cantina Mesa bottle.
