Vineyard and terroir

The vineyard lies at 230–280 m above sea level, on the Podere La Court estate, where centuries-old cypress trees rise above the hills. The vines average 20 years of age. They grow in clay-limestone marl soils of marine origin, rich in silt, sand and trace elements, especially magnesium. Yields are kept deliberately low, with 7–8 carefully selected bunches left on each vine, to achieve exceptional concentration.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine macerates on the skins for 10–12 days, and the cap is gently showered to extract colour and tannins without being too forceful.

Ageing

The wine matures for at least 18 months: 12 months in large oak casks, followed by further rest in bottle in the winery's cellars.

Tasting profile

The 2023 vintage, according to winemaker Stefano Chiarlo, gives wines with deep colour from the outset, a generous bouquet of ripe fruit and delicate sweet notes. On the palate they are full and velvety, with a long finish and remarkable freshness. The house style aims at a balance of elegance, freshness and moderate alcohol.

Vintage notes

2023: the season began with a dry winter, followed by a spring with little rainfall. July was hot, with peaks of 40 °C, causing moderate water stress. Timely rain in mid-August restored the ideal balance in the grapes. Harvest began 15 days earlier than usual to preserve the Chiarlo style.

Label / history

Named after the centuries-old cypress trees above the hills of the Podere La Court estate. The first vintage was 1996. The grapes come from a benchmark vineyard.
