Storia
Winemaking has long been a family business for the Chiarlo family. Michele Chiarlo is the fifth generation to carry it forward. Besides learning from older generations, he earned a degree in oenology.
In 1956 he founded the Michele Chiarlo winery and began expanding the family's vineyards. They now cover 110 ha, some owned by the family and some held on long-term leases.
Michele preserves the family's winemaking traditions while developing and introducing his own methods. He created a sterile bottling system and changed the way the wines are stored.
Terroir
The company cultivates 110 ha across Langhe, Monferrato and Gavi.
Vinificazione
The vines are treated with great care and the grapes are harvested by hand. Only organic fertilisers are used.
Michele Chiarlo created a sterile bottling system and changed the way the wines are stored. The winery aims to make a relatively small amount of wine from the best grapes, with strict control over every stage of winemaking and the use of modern, distinctive technologies.
Filosofia
The winery states its guiding principle as making a relatively small amount of wine using only the best grapes, with strict control over every stage of winemaking and the most modern and distinctive technologies. It acknowledges this approach is expensive. It holds that the wines now stand alongside some of the best-known Italian and international wine brands.
