Vineyard and terroir

The Nebbiolo comes from Michele Chiarlo plots in the heart of Cannubi, on the central part of the hillside at 240 m above sea level. Planted in 1990, the plots benefit from the vineyard’s elevation and exposure, distinctive soils and particular microclimate.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested entirely by hand and hand-selected before destemming and crushing. In 2016, the harvest took place on 11–12 October. Fermentation proceeds slowly in oak casks, with 30 days of skin maceration at 27–30 °C and gentle pump-overs. Malolactic fermentation follows.

Ageing

The wine ages for three years in medium-sized oak casks, followed by further maturation in bottle. The total maturation period is at least six years.

Tasting profile

Complex, sumptuous and austere, with a bold character and striking elegance.

Label / history

Cannubi has been renowned since 1752. Michele Chiarlo created this Riserva as a tribute to the vineyard’s heritage, beginning with the 2016 vintage. It is produced only in selected years; 2,500 bottles of the 2016 vintage were released.
