Storia
Mongarda is a small family winery in the Valdobbiadene-Conegliano Prosecco Superiore area. Its story began in 1978, when Bruno Tormena decided to devote himself to winemaking. As a young man he had learned to grow grapes working with his grandfather in the family vineyards.
Bruno passed his knowledge, experience and passion for grape growing on to his son Martino. Martino, a recent graduate of the winemaking school in Conegliano, has managed the estate since 2011.
Terroir
The winery lies in the Valdobbiadene-Conegliano Prosecco Superiore area. The vineyards, with old vines, stand on steep slopes with poor, stony soils.
Vinificazione
The vines are worked by hand, without herbicides: unwanted plants are mown or removed by hand. No synthetic fertilizers are used. The family instead makes biodynamic compost from grape pomace, vine cuttings and cow manure. Martino is working toward organic certification and is making rapid progress.
Filosofia
Martino is committed to natural farming and is working toward organic certification. The Tormena family looks after the vines without herbicides or synthetic fertilizers and has preserved local heirloom varieties.
