1994: Foundation
Morgante was founded in Sicily in 1994 by a farming family. Antonio Morgante and his sons, Giovanni and Carmelo, decided to make wine from grapes grown in their own vineyards. They spent three years researching winemaking.
1997: Arrival of Riccardo Cotarella
In 1997 the oenologist Riccardo Cotarella joined the family and refined their techniques for making wine from the native Nero d’Avola grape.
Today
The estate covers around 200 hectares, most of it planted with vineyards. The family also produces grappa and olive oil. Its products are sold in Sicily and well beyond the island.
Terroir
The climate is typically Mediterranean. Soils are clay-limestone and marl-limestone. Together these help the juicy, aromatic grapes ripen well.
