Vineyard and terroir

The wine comes from two hectares of vertically trained vines at Monte del Drago, northeast of Verona on the hill separating Montorio from Valle d’Illasi. Planted in 2005 at 6,000 vines/ha, the vineyard has medium-textured, tuffaceous white-clay soil. Yield is 2 kg per vine. The wine has held Demeter certification since 2014.

Vinification

The late-September harvest undergoes a few hours of contact between skins and must, followed by gentle pressing. Fermentation and racking take place at natural autumn temperatures. The wine is not filtered.

Vintage notes

January 2024 was slightly colder than the recent norm and considerably wetter than the preceding five years. A mild, comparatively dry start to spring gave way to frequent rain in May and June, complicating vineyard work and downy-mildew control, though infections were handled far better than in 2023. July was hot during the day, with cooler evenings giving the vines some relief. Less violent rain in August refreshed the plants and enabled the earlier-ripening fruit to reach ideal maturity. Rain became more frequent after mid-September, slowing ripening and compromising the final grapes, but most of the crop had already been secured and the overall result was positive.
