Vineyard and terroir
Rivoli lies south of Alba and extends across three hills, home to the houses of Rivoli, Ca Veja and Bonina. The organically grown fruit comes from the west-facing Rivoli hill, at 280–320 m above sea level, on limestone soils.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, then destemmed and pressed. Fermentation and maceration take place in stainless-steel vats for one week.
Ageing
At the end of winter, the wine is transferred to 25–50 hl barrels made from 15-year-old Slavonian oak and aged for six months.
Tasting profile
The nose is clean and slightly tart, with dark-berry notes and hints of cherry. The palate is juicy and lingering, with a delicate mineral character.
Serving and pairing
Recommended with pâtés, red-meat dishes, hot appetisers and cheeses.
Vintage notes
In Piedmont, the 2021 growing season brought difficult weather and the lowest yields for several years, with losses reaching 50% in some vineyards. Heavy rain arrived shortly before harvest, but the brief storm delayed picking by only about one day. Some winemakers felt that the rain gave the vines renewed energy. Despite the low yields, the harvested grapes were of excellent quality, and the resulting wines were expected to be available only in limited quantities.
Label / history
The first vintage was released in 1893. The wine received the name “Rivoli” in 2018.
