Vineyard and terroir
Radaia is La Parrina’s first red cru and is made from the Laura vineyard, a historic 2 ha Merlot site farmed organically. The old vineyard occupies a foothill clearing at 35 m above sea level, on clay and calcareous soils. Low yields, meticulous vineyard work and an additional selection of the grapes are intended to maintain balance between vegetative growth and fruit production.
Grapes
100% Merlot.
Vinification
The hand-picked bunches are selected in the vineyard and the fruit undergoes a further selection. The grapes are crushed and cooled, then fermented at controlled temperature for 15 days at 30°C. The wine remains on its skins for several days before transfer to concrete tanks for malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
One year in new barriques before bottling. Ageing integrates and softens the tannins.
Technical data
Alcohol: 14.5% vol. Bottle format: 750 ml. One-piece natural cork. Store in a cool place.
Tasting profile
Deep, impenetrable ruby red with violet reflections. The broad, balsamic nose evokes forest berries, leather and rum-filled chocolate. Intense, balsamic and spicy on the palate, with the wood perceptible but integrated into a powerful structure. The texture is substantial, with soft, enveloping tannins. Liquorice and coffee return through a very long finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18–20°C. Pair with game, roasts or stews; it can also accompany chocolate and chocolate cakes.
Label / history
The name derives from the Italian word radura, meaning “clearing,” a reference to the vineyard’s setting.
