Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in Petra’s vineyards in Tuscany. The vines average 17 years of age. Merlot favours the hilly terrain because of its sensitivity to drought, while Cabernet Sauvignon draws on rich, fertile soil.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and undergo traditional vinification.
Ageing
The wine rests in oak barrels for at least 15 months, followed by three months of maturation in bottle in the winery’s cellars.
Tasting profile
Merlot contributes elegance and softness, while Cabernet Sauvignon brings a bold character with powerful flavour and aroma. Sangiovese adds good acidity and tannins.
Vintage notes
In 2017, severe April frosts in Tuscany were followed by scorching summer temperatures that remained above 40 °C for several days, and then by drought. Frost and drought greatly reduced yields, but the surviving grapes produced rich, full-flavoured wines.
