Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come from the "Vigneto del Mezzogiorno" and "Vigneto della Mattina" vineyards in the Chianti Colli Senesi area, at 335–365 m above sea level. The vineyards face southwest and southeast. The soils are a mix of sand (79%), clay (15%) and light loam (6%). The climate is Mediterranean, with warm days and cool nights. The vines are 10 to 20 years old, planted at 5,000 vines per hectare, and yields do not exceed 56 hL per hectare.

Vinification

The grapes are hand-picked into 10 kg plastic crates and hand-selected on a sorting table. Maceration lasts 7 days at a controlled 25–28 °C, with frequent pumping over. The wine is then gently pressed.

Ageing

After pressing, 30% of the wine matures for 3 months in an old 5 hL oak barrel, which adds subtle complexity. The other 70% stays in stainless-steel tanks to preserve the juicy fruit. After blending, the wine ages at least another 6 months in steel tanks. It is bottled during the full moon or the first quarter of the waning moon and rests 3 months in the winery's cellars.

Tasting profile

A young wine, well balanced and fruit-forward, with juicy cherry and plum aromas and a bright, lively character in the classic style of the region. Time in oak adds refined notes of leather and spice.

Serving and pairing

Pairs very well with meat dishes and Mediterranean food. It is meant to be enjoyed young, with no need for a long wait in the cellar.

Label / history

"Nu" was chosen for its meanings across languages: "new" in American slang, "nude" in French, "now" in Scandinavian languages and "good" in Russian. The winemakers wanted a simple wine in a "nude" style, without tricks, that reflects a handmade farm product made from A to Z. Annual production is 30,000 bottles.
