Vineyard and terroir

Riserva is made only in exceptional years by selecting the barrel that most fully expresses the vintage and the Poggio di Sotto style. Each vineyard parcel is harvested and aged separately before this selection. Production is limited, and the chosen barrel often represents a single vineyard.

Site selection responds to the growing season. In cool, rainy years, vineyards at 300–400 m are favoured for their loose, gravel-rich soils and organic matter. In hot, dry years, lower plots at 180–250 m may offer greater freshness and balance because their clay- and galestro-rich soils retain conditions conducive to even ripening.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese.

Vinification

The 2020 Riserva was selected from a single cask during ageing. The vineyard parcels had been harvested and matured separately, allowing the most expressive cask to be identified.

Ageing

At the end of Brunello’s ageing period, the chosen barrel remains in wood for a further 6–12 months. The 2020 technical data specify 36 months in 30 hl oak vessels. The wine was bottled in March 2024.

Alcohol: 13.5%.

Tasting profile

The 2020 combines an ethereal, elegant character with refined fruit and interwoven spice. Austere yet graceful, it retains freshness and fragrance on the palate, framed by silky tannins and an exceptionally long finish that signals longevity.
