Vineyard and terroir

Rosso is drawn from the same estate vineyards capable of producing Brunello di Montalcino. The vines average 20–25 years of age and stand between 200 and 400 m above sea level. Clay matrices and galestro predominate, particularly on the estate’s lower ground. Higher vineyards lie on gravelly soils whose organic content increases with elevation.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese.

Vinification

Vinification takes place in truncated cone-shaped wooden vats and cement tanks and lasts for at least one month. The estate initially treats the fruit according to its potential to become Brunello. After at least two years in wood, selected barrels are designated for Rosso di Montalcino.

Ageing

The wine matures for an average of 24 months in 30 hl Slavonian oak vessels. The 2022 vintage was bottled in February 2025.

Technical data

Alcohol: 14%.

Tasting profile

The 2022 has an ambitious structure balanced by acidity, giving the wine a refined, elegant and intriguing profile.

Vintage notes

Drought began during the winter preceding the 2022 season and continued throughout spring and the first part of summer, accompanied by well-above-average temperatures. Heavy rain on 2–3 August helped the grapes reach normal ripeness with moderate sugar levels. Early phenological maturity allowed harvest to start on 25 August and finish on 23 September. Further abundant rain from late August to mid-September did not materially affect harvesting or fruit maturity.
