Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are harvested from vines aged 5–25 years. The estate's vineyards cover 5 ha near the villa, at an altitude of 350 m, in the heart of Chianti amid woodland and olive groves.
Grapes
The wine combines Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Across the estate's vineyards, more than 90% of the plantings are Sangiovese, with Cabernet Sauvignon also grown.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in the first half of October. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 28–30 °C for 18–24 days, followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine matures in oak barrels for 12 months, followed by three months in bottle.
Label / history
The estate was founded in the 18th century as Fattoria Ricceri, when its principal products were bricks, cups, jugs and vases. Bandino Bandini acquired it in 1899 and developed its agricultural activities around wine and olive oil. It was subsequently renamed Pomona after the Roman goddess of fruit and fruit trees. The estate retains its original layout, comprising a villa, winery, cellars and farm buildings.
