Vineyard and terroir
The Aglianico comes from five separate vineyards in Irpinia, at 420–460 m above sea level. The soils are clay and volcanic, which give the wine its mineral character, depth and structure. The vines are 25 years old on average.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in the second half of October. Berries that have reached the required ripeness are placed in small 15 kg boxes. After selection, destemming and crushing, the must ferments for 20–25 days at 28–30 °C.
Ageing
The wine ages for 12 months in oak barrels, one-third of them new.
Tasting profile
Complex and aromatic, combining power, elegance and longevity. The clay and volcanic soils give it a mineral character, depth and excellent structure. It becomes more complex and layered as it develops in the cellar.
