Vinification
The Cabernet Sauvignon and Nero d’Avola are vinified separately before blending.
Ageing
After fermentation, the Cabernet Sauvignon rests in French oak barrels, while the Nero d’Avola spends 10 months in 30-hectolitre oak botti. After blending, the wine matures for three months in 50-hectolitre oak barrels, followed by a further six months in bottle.
Label / history
The wine’s name honours Count Bernard Hugonis della Gatiné. Its label bears his family crest, depicting an armoured horseman fighting two lions. The pairing of Bordeaux’s Cabernet Sauvignon with Sicily’s traditional Nero d’Avola symbolises the bond between two cultures brought together by love.
Tenuta Rapitalà was founded in 1971 by Count Bernard Hugonis della Gatiné. Its name translates from Arabic as “river of Allah”. The Count restored the cellars and winery after they were almost entirely destroyed in the Belice Valley earthquake.
