Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from separate, low-yield plots in Sicily, planted at 300–550 m above sea level on clay and sandy soils.
Vinification
Chardonnay is harvested in early August and Catarratto in mid-September. The varieties are vinified separately using the same method: the freshly crushed grapes are chilled and gently pressed, then undergo cold settling and temperature-controlled fermentation. Part of the Chardonnay ferments in barrels; the remainder and the Catarratto are held in stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The stainless-steel lots remain in tank until bottling.
Tasting profile
Fresh in character.
Label / history
The name Rapitalà translates from Arabic as “river of Allah”. Tenuta Rapitalà was founded in 1971 by Count Bernard Hugonis della Gatinais. Its cellars and winery were rebuilt after being almost completely destroyed in the Belice Valley earthquake.
