Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The wine comes from a small parcel of approximately 7,000 m²—less than 1 hectare. Its name refers to the ancient Lebanese cedars growing in the grounds of Villa Pattono, opposite the vineyards. It was Ratti’s first white wine, first produced in 2002.
Grapes
100% Sauvignon Blanc.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in September and pressed very gently. Fermentation is temperature controlled. The technical sheet describes fermentation and subsequent sur-lie ageing in stainless-steel tanks, while the wine page specifies alcoholic fermentation in first- and second-use French barriques.
Ageing
The technical sheet gives more than one year of ageing on the lees in stainless steel with bâtonnage, followed by further bottle ageing. The wine page instead describes several months on the lees in stainless steel after barrel fermentation.
Tasting profile
Straw yellow with green highlights. Intense aromas of white peach, grapefruit and tomato leaf lead to a full, savoury palate. Medium-bodied and complex, the wine can acquire appealing mineral nuances as it ages. Its profile combines breadth of aroma with balance.
Serving and pairing
Pair with starters, first courses, fish and white meats.
Label / history
The historical “soldier” label was designed by Renato Ratti in memory of the Piedmontese regiments that defended their region during the Napoleonic period around 1800. The wine uses the Albeisa bottle, named after Alba and created by Renato Ratti in 1973 to identify the territory and its wines.
