Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
Opera Prima is made from old Nebbiolo vines drawn from several vineyards.
Grapes
Nebbiolo. It is a multi-vintage wine combining between two and four harvests; the composition varies by edition. No percentage breakdown is given for the latest edition.
Ageing
The component wines mature in neutral oak barrels and concrete tanks. They are blended once optimal maturity has been reached.
Vintage notes
Rather than carrying a conventional vintage designation, Opera Prima bears a Roman numeral identifying its edition. The represented sequence runs from Opera Prima III through Opera Prima XX.
Label / history
Alfredo Roagna created Opera Prima at the end of the 1970s. His concept was to unite different Nebbiolo vintages, synthesizing the strongest qualities of the selected harvests while moderating their differences. The label was designed by the young Alfredo as a deliberately contrasting, unconventional statement at a time when the denomination carried little value.
