Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards lie in the Langhe at 350–400 m above sea level, facing south, on soils that combine limestone and marl. The vines are trained on the Guyot system at a density of 6,000 plants per hectare.
Grapes
The wine is a blend of Nebbiolo and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Vinification
The grapes are generally harvested by hand in early October. Vinification follows the traditional red method, with 10 days of maceration. The wine is first kept in steel tanks.
Ageing
After the first period in steel, the wine is aged for an extended time in barriques, then returned to stainless steel tanks to continue maturing. It rests in bottle for several more months before release.
Vintage notes
2020: The winter in Piedmont was mild, with moderate temperatures and little rainfall. Early spring was relatively dry and sunny, but heavy rain fell from May to the end of June. A sharp drop in temperature in early September temporarily slowed ripening, which then accelerated strongly in the second half of the month. The grapes were of excellent quality, with an excellent balance of acidity.
Label / history
Roberto Sarotto created Enrico I in 1993 to celebrate the birth of his first child, his son Enrico. It was first released in very limited quantities, but its success led the winery to continue making the cuvée in later years. Annual production does not exceed 5,000 bottles.
