Questo vino

Vineyard and terroir

The wine comes from Scopone's Sangiovese Grosso vineyards, planted on deep soils rich in sand and clay.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese.

Vinification

The 2021 grapes were harvested by hand, with an initial selection of bunches in the vineyard. After destemming, the berries underwent a second selection on a sorting table. Fermentation lasted approximately 7 days in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 26–28°C. The wine then remained on the skins for another 10–15 days. Racking was followed by malolactic fermentation.

Ageing

Ageing took place in 25 hl French oak casks and 65 hl Slavonian oak casks, followed by at least 6 months in bottle before release.

Technical data

The wine has 14% alcohol, total acidity of 5.10 g/L and net dry extract of 28.60 g/L. Production was 12,000 bottles. The wine page gives a pH of 3.22, whereas the 2021 technical sheet gives 3.52.

Tasting profile

Intense, bright ruby red. The nose is fruity and elegant, combining small red berries with sour or Morello cherry, violet and blackberry, followed by balsamic nuances of licorice. The palate is sensual and harmonious, leading to a pleasantly vibrant, savory finish.

Vintage notes

The rainy winter of 2021 supplied the soil with a fair reserve of water. Mild spring conditions supported regular budding, while persistent cool breezes helped avert frost. June brought several rainless weeks, but rainfall at the end of August assisted the grapes in reaching full ripeness. Harvest began in the final ten days of September and concluded in the first week of October.
