Vineyard and terroir
The 2011 Syrah came from Vigneto Sopra Giardino at Selvapiana in the municipality of Rufina. The vineyard stood at 200 m and faced west to north-west. Its medium-textured clay-limestone soil was rich in stones, very deep and cool. The vines were six years old, trained on a trellis and spur-pruned cordon, with 5,000 vines per hectare. Yield was 70 q/ha, equivalent to 7 t/ha.

Vinification
The fruit was picked by hand in the first week of September. Vinification and maceration took place in open barriques over 25 days.
Ageing
Maturation took place in French oak barriques. Bottling occurred in June 2014.
Technical data
Production comprised 3,000 bottles.
Vintage notes
The 2011 winter was relatively mild and rainy, followed by an early spring that advanced the vegetative cycle by about ten days. Warm April conditions and rain in May and June supported vegetative development. A warm but seasonally typical summer, coupled with very cool nights, enabled slow and even ripening. Above-average temperatures at the end of August brought harvest forward to early September.
Label / history
The wine originated from the cellar team’s enthusiasm for Syrah and gradually became established as a local expression of the variety.
