Vineyard and terroir
The south- and southeast-facing vineyards lie at 100–200 m above sea level on rocky mountain soils. The vines are between 8 and 35 years old.
Vinification
Merlot is harvested in late September, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc in mid-October. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel vats without temperature control. Fermentation and maceration last 8–10 days, followed by malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12–16 months in previously used 225 L oak barriques, followed by 10–12 months in bottle.
Label / history
The name Phigaia translates as “perfection of the land.” The wine has been produced since 1994.
