Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from vineyards in the Treviso region. The estate lies near Nervesa della Battaglia and works organically. The owners are also developing and selecting local vines to restore the area's genetic heritage, a long and complex process that continues today.
Grapes
A blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Bianco.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in the second half of September, once optimally ripe, and carefully sorted. Sauvignon Blanc is vinified in stainless steel tanks. Pinot Bianco is partly vinified in oak barriques.
Ageing
After fermentation the wine ages on the lees in neutral vessels until bottling. It is released 18–20 months after the previous vintage's harvest.
Label / history
The wine is the alter ego of the estate's red Phigaia. In the 11th century the Benedictine monastery Abazia di Nervesa was founded near Nervesa della Battaglia. Its monks grew grapes and made wine, and the estate grew very large and well developed. It survived until the early 20th century and was destroyed in 1918, during the First World War. In 1986 two friends, Francesco Serafini and Antonello Vidotto, set out to revive it. Working from old documents and maps, they began recreating the landscape of that period, both the architecture and the vineyards. Their stated aim is to preserve, express and share the distinctive character of this ancient land through their wines.
