Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from Tragugnano, one of the company's oldest vineyards, at an altitude of 160–180 metres. The estate lies in Civitella d'Agliano, between northern Lazio and Umbria, on 130 hectares of volcanic soil that have belonged to the Mottura family for more than 70 years; vines have been grown here since the XIII century. The family works mainly with vineyards planted several decades ago, and only one-third of the vines are new. Farming is organic: no artificial fertilisers and no mechanical harvesting.
Grapes
The 2019 vintage is a blend of Procanico, Grechetto and Sauvignon Blanc.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected, then gently pressed. The must is chilled immediately to speed up settling, so that only the clear juice is fermented. Fermentation is slow and at a controlled low temperature. Traditional farming is combined with modern winemaking technology, without chemical additives.
Ageing
The wine matures on its lees in stainless steel tanks until the end of March, followed by a further 2 months in the bottle.
Label / history
The porcupine is the emblem of Mottura wines. The estate's owners chose it because the animal lives only where nature is in balance, and they see themselves as responsible for preserving the beauty and purity of the natural world.
