Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown at the Campomaccione estate in the province of Grosseto, owned by the Zingarelli family since 1998. The estate vineyards range from 30 to 131 metres above sea level and predominantly face north and northwest. Quartz-rich sandstone soils have a sandy-loam texture and are generally sub-acidic. Plantings date from 1999–2002 and have a density of 6,000 vines per hectare.
The dry, hilly terrain and warm climate favour full ripening, while maritime air contributes to the aromatic character of the grapes.
Grapes
Sangiovese.
Vinification
Grapes picked at optimal ripeness undergo temperature-controlled rosé vinification with brief contact between the must and skins.
Ageing
The wine is bottled in the spring following harvest to preserve its fermentation-derived freshness.
