Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown at the Campomaccione estate in the province of Grosseto. The estate was acquired by the Zingarelli family in 1998. Its vineyards lie between 30 and 131 metres above sea level, predominantly facing north and northwest. Quartz-rich sandstone soils have a sandy-loam texture and are generally sub-acidic. The vineyards were planted in 1999–2002 at a density of 6,000 vines per hectare; Vermentino is trained using Guyot.
The dry, hilly terrain and warm local climate encourage full ripening, while maritime air contributes to the aromatic character of the grapes.
