Vineyard and terroir

The wine is selected from the best grapes grown in Tenuta di Sesta’s vineyards. The latest published technical data place the south-facing vines at 280–350 metres above sea level. Planting density is 5,000 vines per hectare, with spur-pruned cordon training. Vineyard work includes manual winter pruning, shoot thinning, desuckering, control of bunch numbers and manual harvest.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese grosso.

Vinification

Maceration lasts 20–25 days. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in thermostatically controlled stainless-steel tanks.

Ageing

For the 2021 vintage, maturation lasts 2.5–3 years in Slavonian oak casks of 20–30 hl, followed by at least six months in bottle. The general profile describes 30 months in 20–30 hl Slavonian oak and the same minimum bottle maturation.

Technical data

Vintage: 2021. Alcohol: 14.5% vol. Total acidity: 5.2 g/L. Total dry extract: 32.3 g/L. Average annual production: 40,000 bottles. Packaging is a 550 g Bordeaux bottle.

Tasting profile

Ruby red evolves toward garnet with age. In youth, the wine emphasizes fruit and flowers; with maturity it develops ethereal complexity and autumn-leaf or forest-floor nuances. The 2021 profile is intense, broad and elegant, built around mellow red fruits and delicate spice. The palate is dry and soft, with velvety tannins, balance, intensity, persistence and elegance.

Serving and pairing

Pair with roasts, game, red meats, rich first courses with sauces and mature cheeses.

Vintage notes
