Vineyard and terroir

Nebbiolo is selected from vineyards across the Langhe. The source area encompasses varied terrain, from limestone marl to sandier soils. Vineyards producing loose bunches of small berries are preferred. Yields are approximately 60 hl/ha, while training systems range from Guyot to spurred cordon.

Grapes

Nebbiolo.

Vinification

The grapes are destemmed and crushed very gently. Alcoholic fermentation proceeds in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Skin contact lasts 10–15 days according to the vintage, with frequent délestage to assist extraction. Malolactic fermentation follows racking.

Ageing

The first stage takes place in small oak barrels. The wine then continues maturing in barrels of different sizes until aroma and flavour reach the desired balance. It reaches its full potential after at least two years.

Technical data

Alcohol: 13–13.5% vol., depending on the vintage.

Tasting profile

Ruby red with garnet highlights. Violet, rose, vanilla and cocoa shape the bouquet. The palate is warm, full-bodied, velvety and rounded, with sustained length and a broad, harmonious finish. Oak ageing contributes a pronounced but rounded woody note.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18–20°C and open one hour before serving. Pair with meat-based pasta or rice dishes, meat-based main courses and aged cheeses.

Label / history

The label reproduces an original 1899 painting discovered at the Cappalotto farmhouse, portraying the vineyard rising in front of the Villadoria cellars. Bricco Magno means “Great Hill.” Conceived by Pietro and Daniele Lanzavecchia, it became an international ambassador for the Villadoria name, combining the power of its place of origin with a modern stylistic approach.
