Vineyard and terroir

The Montepulciano d’Abruzzo comes from the Chronicon Vineyard in the Casauria Valley. Medium-textured soils tending toward clay face west. Constant ventilation throughout the year and marked day-to-night temperature variation shape the vineyard environment. Vines are trained using pergola and espalier systems, and the harvest takes place at the end of September.

Grapes

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.

Vinification

Selected grapes are destemmed and crushed, then gently pressed under vacuum to separate only the free-run must. A 10-day cold settling precedes fermentation. The wine subsequently remains on its lees in stainless-steel tanks until bottling.

Ageing

Prolonged lees ageing in stainless steel until bottling.

Technical data

Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo DOC. Alcohol: 13% vol., with possible variation between vintages. Available format: 0.75 L. Recommended glass: tulip.

Tasting profile

An intense cherry-pink rosé with vivid, bright reflections. The fragrant nose is led by cherry, strawberry and ripe red fruit. The palate combines substantial texture with lively freshness and salinity, carrying woodland-fruit flavours into an exceptionally long finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 10–12°C. Pair with starters, cured meats, tomato-based pasta dishes, flavourful fish soups and white meats.

Label / history

The Chronicon line and its labels take inspiration from the Chronicon Casauriense, a collection of medieval chronicles concerning the Abbey of San Clemente a Casauria. Compiled by the monk Giovanni di Berardo and embellished with illustrations and pen drawings, the manuscript is preserved in the National Library in Paris.
