About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Maldafrica comes from Fontane in Vittoria, south-eastern Sicily. The organically cultivated vineyard is situated at 230 metres above sea level. Its medium-textured red soils originate from sub-Apennine sands dating to the Pliocene and combine limestone with layers of fresh clay and siliceous sand. The vines are spur-cordon trained, planted at 5,000 vines per hectare and average 25 years of age.

Grapes

50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Vinification

Harvest takes place in September. The wine ferments spontaneously in terracotta amphorae, remaining on the skins and relying on indigenous yeasts.

Ageing

The wine is matured in Slavonian oak casks and subsequently in bottle.
