About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes predominantly from the La Grola vineyard in Valpolicella Classica. The site has a south-eastern aspect and mixed soils with a substantial limestone and clay component. The vines are trained using the Guyot system.
Grapes
The 2021 blend comprises 70% Corvina Veronese, 20% Corvinone and 10% Oseleta. Corvina provides the blend’s characteristic Valpolicella identity, while Oseleta deepens its colour and aromatic expression.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested manually, with bunch selection carried out in the vineyard during the second ten days of September. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at 20–28°C for 15 days, with continuous pumping over.
Ageing
The wine matures in old barriques for at least 16 months. Following blending, it rests for two months before bottling and then receives a further minimum of ten months in bottle before release.
Technical data
Vintage 2021. Alcohol: 14.12% vol. Total acidity: 5.70 g/L. Residual sugar: 0.60 g/L. Dry extract: 33.3 g/L. pH: 3.53. Available formats are 750 ml, 1.5 L and 3 L.
Tasting profile
A structured red whose firm yet ripe tannins are balanced by refreshing acidity and ripe red fruit. Concentrated bramble fruit, cherries and violets lead into tobacco, cigar-box and dark-chocolate notes. The palate is velvety, with a long finish of red and black fruits.
Serving and pairing
Its structure is suited to meat-based pasta dishes such as lasagna Bolognese and to braised or stewed meats served with rich sauces. Stewed mushrooms and mature, non-spicy cheeses provide vegetarian alternatives.
Vintage notes
Low temperatures in April caused late bud break and delayed the 2021 phenological cycle by 15–20 days compared with the preceding year. Several rainy days in September, together with substantial accumulated heat, supported high acidity and exceptional ripeness. The harvested grapes were in excellent health and particularly rich in anthocyanins.
Label / history
