About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

MCMLVII comes from the Alois Lageder-owned Punggl vineyard at the southern foot of the Magrè talus cone, at 230 m. Its sandy, loamy soil contains limestone. Merlot was first planted here in 1957, and only the highest-quality grapes are selected for this wine each year.

Grapes

Merlot.

Vinification

The grape mash ferments spontaneously in large casks and stainless-steel tanks, with a portion of whole bunches included.

Ageing

The wine matures for several months in small and large casks, followed by approximately one year in bottle.

Technical data

The 2020 vintage has 12.5% alcohol by volume.

Tasting profile

Cherry red with ruby highlights. The pronounced nose combines berries, earthy nuances and fine spice. The palate is full-bodied, balanced, layered and fresh, with a refined equilibrium between fruit and acidity.

Serving and pairing

Suitable with veal, lamb, venison and cheeses. Recommended drinking window: 3–15 years.

Label / history

The Roman numerals MCMLVII signify 1957, the year the vineyard was planted. The quality of this parcel led winemaker Luis von Dellemann to vinify its fruit separately in 1995, establishing the wine as a distinct bottling.
