History
The road to Montalcino
The Cecchi family developed its familiarity with Montalcino over a period of years, working alongside local partners and producer friends. The project grew from the family’s long-standing focus on Sangiovese and its search for different expressions of the variety in Tuscany.
Acquisition in 2018
In 2018, the Cecchi family acquired Aminta at Castelnuovo dell’Abate. The purchase added 6 ha of vineyard and an equipped winery to the family’s holdings, establishing a direct estate presence in Montalcino and reinforcing its commitment to Sangiovese and to important central Italian denominations.
A project devoted to two expressions of Sangiovese
Aminta became the family’s most recent estate project and its base for Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino. The two wines were assigned deliberately different identities: Brunello is conceived around intensity, longevity, balance and personality, interpreted in a contemporary register; Rosso follows a fragrant, approachable and distinctly contemporary direction independent of Brunello’s more austere character.
Cecchi Atelier
In 2025, the estate’s Brunello di Montalcino 2020 and Rosso di Montalcino 2023 joined Cecchi Atelier, a five-wine collection created for restaurants and specialist wine shops. Within the project, Aminta was presented as a boutique winery dedicated to authentic interpretations of Montalcino Sangiovese.
Terroir
Aminta is situated at Castelnuovo dell’Abate in the Montalcino area of Tuscany. Its 6 ha of vines are devoted to Sangiovese, the variety at the centre of the estate project.
Montalcino is presented as a naturally suited winegrowing territory in which Sangiovese can unite structure and finesse. The estate’s two appellations explore that setting through Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino.
Recorded seasonal conditions
The 2021 season began with a generally mild winter in which temperatures rarely fell below freezing. Rain was limited and increased only toward the end of winter. Early vine activity was followed by a marked temperature decline in April. Rain in May helped replenish water reserves; June and July were hot and dry, while late-August rain lowered temperatures and supported slow, even ripening.
The 2024 season opened with a warm, dry winter and budbreak around the end of March. April was mild and regular. May and June brought abundant, evenly distributed rain and cooler conditions, supporting balanced vine development and vineyard management. The summer remained mild through July, with occasional rain replenishing soil moisture. August heat dried the ground before mid-month rain cooled the air, restored climatic balance and allowed ripening to continue steadily. Harvest conditions were cool and rainy.
Winemaking
A specific adaptive pruning measure is documented for the 2021 season. Because vine activity began early, pruning was postponed to delay budbreak; this helped protect the developing buds when temperatures fell sharply in April.
Seasonal vineyard management in 2024 took place under evenly distributed May and June rainfall, which supported balanced vine development. Soil-water reserves were replenished by occasional summer rain, and mid-August precipitation restored climatic balance after a heat wave, permitting regular ripening to continue.
Aminta includes an equipped winery at Castelnuovo dell’Abate, acquired together with its 6 ha of vineyard in 2018. It is the production base for the estate’s Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino.
Philosophy
Aminta is devoted to Sangiovese and to understanding how the variety can express Montalcino through two deliberately separate identities. Brunello is pursued as a wine of intensity, longevity, balance and personality, with a contemporary stylistic outlook. Rosso is intended to stand on its own rather than function merely as a lesser counterpart to Brunello: its desired identity is fragrant, approachable and distinctly contemporary.
The wider Cecchi production philosophy is based on listening to nature and emphasizing the identifying traits of each grape variety and vintage in both vineyard and cellar. Respect for territory, attention to detail, reduced environmental impact, protection of natural resources and preservation of agricultural landscapes form part of the family’s stated principles. At Aminta, this territorial emphasis is focused on Sangiovese and the two Montalcino denominations.
